Dear Mother,
As your baby’s arrival draws closer, you may find yourself preparing in many different ways.
You might be attending appointments, washing tiny clothes, organising the nursery, or packing your hospital bag.
These things matter. But today, I want to gently ask you something.
How is your heart?
Because while many mothers spend months preparing for birth physically, very few are encouraged to prepare their hearts.
And yet, birth is not only a journey of the body.
It is a journey of the heart, too.
The Thoughts You Carry Matter
Perhaps there are moments when you feel excited to meet your baby.
And perhaps there are moments when fear quietly finds its way into your thoughts.
You may wonder:
“Will I cope with labour?”
“What if something goes wrong?”
“Am I strong enough for this?”
If you have ever felt this way, please know that you are not alone.
Many mothers carry these questions in their hearts.
The goal is not to pretend those feelings do not exist.
But the goal is to gently replace fear with trust, uncertainty with knowledge, and anxiety with remembrance of Allah.
Your Birth Story Begins Before Labour
Birth preparation is often reduced to physical preparation.
But long before labour begins, your heart is already preparing for motherhood.
The way you speak to yourself matters.
The stories you listen to matter.
The people you surround yourself with matter.
And the relationship you nurture with Allah matters.
A peaceful heart does not guarantee a perfect birth.
But it can help you face whatever unfolds with greater strength and calm.
The Beautiful Example of Maryam (عليها السلام)
Whenever I think about pregnancy and birth, I reflect on the story of Maryam (علیها السلام).
She experienced uncertainty.
She experienced pain.
She experienced moments when she felt completely alone.
Yet Allāh never abandoned her.
At the moment she needed Him most, His mercy surrounded her.
Her story reminds us of something every mother needs to hear:
♡ You are never alone. ♡
♡ Allah sees your fears.
♡ He knows your worries.
♡ He knows every dua you whisper for yourself and your baby.
And just as He cared for Maryam (علیها السلام) , His care and mercy remain with you.
Preparing Your Heart Through Faith
As your due date approaches, take time to nurture your heart.
Make dua for your birth.
Read Qur’an.
Speak words of hope over yourself.
Seek beneficial knowledge.
Spend time with people who encourage rather than frighten you.
Most importantly, remind yourself that Allah chose you for this journey.
The One who created your baby is also the One who created your body and placed within it the ability to nurture, birth, and mother.
Dear Mother,
You do not need to have all the answers.
You do not need to control every outcome.
You do not need to carry the weight of every “what if.”
Prepare as best as you can.
Learn what you need to learn.
Take the means that Allah has provided.
Then place your trust in Him.
As you prepare for birth, do not only prepare your hospital bag.
Prepare your heart.
Fill it with knowledge.
Fill it with hope.
Fill it with remembrance of Allāh.
And trust that He will be with you every step of the way.
Because birth is not only the arrival of a baby.
It is also the birth of a mother. ♡

As mothers, we often spend time preparing the practical things for birth, but the greatest preparation begins within.
